Beard Cap
Vik Prjónsdóttir, an Icelandic design group, makes interesting fiber products from Icelandic wool, including these Beard Caps:
The beard caps refer to a traditional cap called "lambshed-hood" which was used in Iceland by farmers who in heavy snowstorms had to walk long distances between their sheds and to the neigboring farms. The cap covered both head and neck and had only a small opening for the face. The addition of the mustache takes the cake for me. I can see it being practical for keeping your hot, warm nose exhalations from chapping your lips. That is, if you don't have a real mustache. Regardless, if you're lucky enough to live in a climate where this is practical, I highly recommend getting/making one of these and posting lots of pictures of it to the CRAFT Flickr pool, if only to make me jealous. - [via] Link.

Knitters for Critters: Help Make Knitted Ornaments to Benefit the SF Oil Spill Cleanup

Terrie points us to Knitters for Critters that is a special project in San Rafael, CA in response to the recent Cosco Busan oil spill cleanup in San Francisco Bay.
From the site:
Knitters for Critters is focusing this week on knitting the ornament pattern from the Holiday issue of Vogue Knitting – it’s essentially a knitted tube that can go over a Styrofoam ball. It would be better to make the smaller sizes, especially the two-inch size, given the cost of the Styrofoam balls. For more information on how you can contribute to the project, visit Knitters for Critters. - Link. Please bring your contribution by Friday, Nov 23rd, 12 noon to Marin Fiber Arts.
These ornaments will be sold this coming Friday from 4 – 8 pm at the Marin Fiber Arts booth at San Rafael’s annual Parade of Lights and Winter Wonderland in downtown San Rafael. Look for the Marin Fiber Arts booth!

Vickie Howell CRL Podcast with SNL's Will Forte

Vickie Howell talks to one of Saturday Night Live's funny man Wil Forte in her CRL podcast. I've been a fan of SNL since high school in the 80's and it's great to hear how this comedian learned to knit from Vickie back in 2005, as well some background on SNL and the writers strike. You have to subscribe to this podcast because I love listening to it as I work. Pictured above is Will and Vickie as featured in Knit.1 in 2005. Link.
