$3 Origami Flower - Weekend Projects PDFcast

Bre writes:
Making insanely cool origami isn't easy. This week's video and PDF work to make it easier to make the $3 dollar origami flower found in Craft: 05. If you live in a country with different currency, I'd love to see this in international flavors! If your base currency is worth more than can be left as a tip, I challenge you to make your own money shaped designs. Upload them to the Flickr Craft Pool! The hardest parts for me were step 14 and 19, so I've put lots of pictures in the pdf that help make these steps easier! It took me a few tries to figure this out so if you're having trouble, don't give up! - PDF Link

CRAFT Pattern Podcast - Heartfelt Toaster Cozy from the book Material World by Cat Wei

This week's CRAFT Pattern Podcast is the Heartfelt Toaster Cozy, a pattern excerpt from the new book, Material World: Home Decor Projects for the Fabric Obsessed by Cat Wei. (You can get it for just $13.59 on Amazon too!) This fun pattern is easy to sew up in felt to create the rainbow and heart pattern, with cute pom-pom trim. I love all of the projects in this book which help you add a fun touch of crafty decor in your home. There are lots of refashioning projects in the book so you can reuse your old clothes with projects such as the Oxford Shirt Cushion Cover to sewing up a t-shirt quilt! My personal favorite is the Patchwork Taxidermy Animal Rug, a fun kitschy way to sew up an animal shaped rug out of fabric! Author Cat Wei is also the co-host of Material Girls on the DIY Network so she knows what she's doing. Material World is a bevy of inspirational projects, you'll want to make them all!

CRAFT Pattern Podcast: Ethnic Knitting Discovery - Knit Headbands of Norway by Donna Druchunas

This week's CRAFT Pattern Podcast is the Knit Headbands of Norway, an excerpt from the new book, Ethnic Knitting Discovery: The Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and The Andes by Donna Druchunas. I love Donna's new book because she gives us the history behind certain knitting patterns and motifs that are created by certain countries. This easy to knit headband shows you three pattern motifs from Norway you can knit: the Saint Andrew's Cross, Snowflake, and Diamonds. As you know with my previous posts this summer on Travel with Craft Books (here and here), we are continuing this theme with this book, but with a greater sense of historical technique. It's so fascinating to read how certain patterns and techniques develop in certain areas based on climate and think of how the pass orally through families and towns for generations. More on this book on Monday where CRAFT is a part of the Ethnic Knitting Discovery Blog Book Tour and I'll be talking with Donna more about this fantastic book.
