Turning a Jawbreaker on a Lathe to Make a Shot Glass
One of my favorite parts of eating a giant jawbreaker is watching the layers of colors change throughout the candy. This video from hifijohn on YouTube takes that pleasure to a whole new level. He attached a giant jawbreaker to his lathe and proceeded to turn a shot glass from it. It's mesmerizing to watch the beautiful colored layers emerge and change as the piece takes shape. I imagine it smelled really wonderful, too! [via BoingBoing]

How-To: Cupcakewurst
Cupcakewurst is cupcake batter cooked in a sausage casing. Put it on a donut that looks like a bun and add some raspberry topping instead of ketchup and the illusion is complete.

Wisdom Tooth Ring
Jewelry artist Shannon Larratt created a one-of-a-kind gift for his fiance for her birthday last week.
Quite a while ago she gave me permission to use her wisdom teeth (appropriate for her reaching a "wise-old age") that have been sitting in a jar of alcohol since she had them yanked out. So for a birthday present I spent some time welding and carving metal (this is all hand-formed, not cast like most of my rings) into a ring that holds the tooth along with a pair of moonstones.

View Master Quilt Block
This is great! Kim from My Go-Go Life provides a tutorial on how to make a View Master-inspired quilt block. I really like the block with binding to stand on its own for a wonderful mini quilt.

The Morbid Anatomy Art Academy's Taxidermy Class
The Morbid Anatomy Art Academy in Brooklyn has been offering a number of unusual arts and craft classes including: "Anthropomorphic Mouse Taxidermy," an "Effigy Doll Class," and a "Mummification Class." Apparently the classes are very popular, so I guess they're getting stuffed with people who are just dying to take them.

Paper Titanic Derby Hat
My pal Christine from Delachic has officially made the most wonderful and ridiculous hat that I've ever seen. Designed for a charity event that also happened to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, she whipped up this fabulous Titanic derby hat the night before using manila folders and foam sheets.
Last Friday marked the 100th anniversary of the Titanic. It was also the day of a work fundraiser where I volunteered. It's usually a big to-do where there's a fake horse race, similar to the Kentucky Derby. Therefore, there were derby hats!!
And, as if it the giant ship and classy birdcage veil weren't enough, the whole thing actually lights up!
Pretty fantastic, right?

Recipe: Fishbowl Dessert Cocktail
Just looking at the fishbowl dessert cocktail that Meg from Not Martha shared on the ModCloth blog makes me long for a lounge chair, a beach umbrella, and a choice spot right next to the pool. If I sip one on my fire escape, do you think Brooklyn will suddenly feel a little more like a balmy tropical island?

Homemade Lucky Charms Marshmallows
"Making Lucky Charms from scratch is an achievement that I am proud of, but like climbing Mount Everest, it is not something that I would recommend to everyone," writes Stef of Cupcake Project. She braved the intensive task of making the crunchy breakfast cereal marshmallows, and it sounds like she won't be doing it again, since she and her husband both got thumb blisters from cutting the marshmallows into little hearts, stars, and clovers.
Stef notes that it is necessary to make your own corn syrup in order to have success with this recipe — store-bought corn syrup "doesn't crystallize in the same way that homemade corn syrup does and the marshmallows won't get as crunchy."
My mom is a dietitian, so growing up it was a rare treat when a bowl of Lucky Charms crossed my path. Oh man, I used to love those marshmallows.
