Best of CRAFT Pattern Podcast: BurdaStyle's Maddy Top

CRAFT Pattern Podcast
Burdastyle Maddy

This week's CRAFT Pattern Podcast is one we featured back here in 2007, the Maddy Top from BurdaStyle. It's a stylish top that you can sew up this weekend to wear right away. This top's signature look is centered on the diamond gathered in the front. Make sure you choose the right fabric because the lighter the fabric, the harder it will be to sew the diamond. One tip is to secure the gathering with a stitch line before you sew it to the other pieces of the top. For more how-to's related to this project, check out the Maddy page on BurdaStyle.

Also check out the mod version of Maddy in Stretch, with some tips for using the pattern with jersey fabric.

Frog Wheat Bag Tutorial

Froggiehotsock2.jpg froghotsock2.jpg

My mom has had a long love affair with frogs (made birthdays really easy when I was growing up), and I recently caught the bug myself (so to speak) at the California Academy of Science.

So of course I fell in love with this adorable froggie hot sock (or hot frog wheat bag, as it's referred to in the original post), and now there's a wheat bag pattern and tutorial! I'm totally smitten with that fabulous fly lolling on the greenest of tongues. Gotta make myself one of these to stick in my pocket or the little one's stroller on a cold San Francisco summer (ha!) morning... (Via Whip Up.)

p.s. Check out the Wikipedia page on frogs for some jaw-dropping frog tidbits.

AmiDogs Patterns: The Great Dane

Greatdane Amidogs
If you don't have a pet, why not crochet yourself one? June at PlanetJune has a new AmiDogs design, the Great Dane amigurumi crochet pattern. The finished Great Dane is 10" long including tail (or 8" without counting the tail). This is a versatile pattern where June's added options to make the dual-coloured dog pictured, and a single-colored version. There are also two ear patterns so you can also make your Great Dane with cropped ears! The Great Dane pattern is available for $4.50 in the PlanetJune shop, or you can include it in a custom set of your choice of any three AmiDogs patterns (pictured below) for $11.25.

Bulky Baby Blanket Knit Pattern

Bulky-Baby-Blankets-425
Whitney at The Purl Bee has a knitting pattern to make this bulky baby blanket.

Whit writes:

I love thick and squishy baby blankets. They keep babies cozy in cold weather, of course, and they're fast to knit, which is always a welcome bonus; but, best of all, they are perfect floor mats for young babies who haven't yet discovered their locomotive skills. I'm always reaching for the plushest blankets I have so I can set Bear down wherever I need to be. I get to keep an eye on him, and he gets to experience new vantage points from his luxurious travelling rugs.

Save America Shop Indie Cross Stitch Pattern

Sasindieframe
Jen at Indie Fixx shares her free cross stitch pattern to Save America Shop Indie.

Jen writes:

There's a music & book shop in my town that I like frequent called Rainbow. They are an independently owned store that's been in business since the 70's and one I've been going to since I was a kid. Indie is pretty important to them too and as a result they had these bumper stickers made up with the slogan " Save America! Shop Indie!". I have one hanging up in my office/studio (see it below). Well, I was inspired to make a cross stitch pattern based on the bumper sticker, after getting their permission of course.
