Knit Sneakers and Felted Sweater Boots
We're glad that our CRAFT: 01 project on knitted boots inspired Lee of Leethal zine to make up these fun pairs of knitted sneakers. I love the mary jane style. She also made a third version that laces up which you can see more of in her post.Link.
But it doesn't stop there. Lee's also whipped herself up a pair of felted boots from an old argyle thrift store sweater and an old pair of Pumas. Check out the tutorial on that one as well. Link.

Stitch for Senate
Cat at MicroRevolt announced the launch of her new site Stitch for Senate on the 4th anniversary of the Iraq War.
Cat writes:
Stitch for Senate is an initiative of knit hobbyists making helmet liners for every United States Senator. The helmet liner pattern was adapted from a support-the-troops initiative for soldiers stationed in Iraq. All the senators will receive their own helmet liner, and Senators can opt to send helmet liners to a soldier once they receive the helmet. Charitable knitting during wartime has been a tradition since the American Revolution. The Stitch for Senate website will compile testimonies from knitters reviving this cultural trend, seeking to understand what knitters express through wartime knitting: charity, allegiance, patriotism, resistance, radicalism, etc. and use the tradition of political organizing within knitting circles as a space for storytelling, discussion, exchange and protest.
Check out the Stitch for Senate site and see how you can help participate. [ via ] - Link.

Knit "Fong"
What's a "fong"? It's a little knit foot protector you can wear when you break in your new flip flops this spring! Kathy of Old Lady Pen Pal's Dirt put up the pattern for her cozy knit wonder. Kathy says, "The skin between my first two toes was tender and weak from being safely ensconced in layers of wool socks and snow boots. The plastic part that connected the rubber sole to the straps always rubbed a raw spot between my toes. Why did it take me 32 years to come up with a more fashionable solution than a Band-Aid?" Link.

Stitch Diva Studios - Goddess Knit Sweater
I've always loved the fresh modern styles of the patterns by Jennifer Hansen of Stitch Diva Studios. Here's a perfect new one for spring, the Goddess knit tank sweater. From the site, "Knit from the top down in stockinette stitch, Goddess is a try-on-as-you-go design that provides opportunities to learn a few new tricks, yet still affords lots of easygoing 'TV knitting'. " Ohh! That's my kind of knitting! Get the pattern over at Stitch Diva Studios for only $7. Link.

Blood Scarf by Laura Splan
As seen today on Wired's blog and here on Subversive Cross Stitch, it's a bit curious as to why artist Laura Splan decided to create a knit scarf out of what would normally be an intravenous blood device. From the site, "The implied narrative is a paradoxical one in which the device keeps the user warm with their blood while at the same time draining their blood drip by drip." Maybe a cool project if you were in the hospital and you didn't have any yarn or if you were a vampire. Ok I'm about to faint here... Link.
