How-To: Perler Bead Bracelets
We're heading in to summer, and that means I'm collecting ideas for projects that I can do with the kids while they are out of school. I'm bookmarking this collection of perler bead bracelet tutorials that Helena of Craft and Creativity gathered as something to try with my daughter. The bold colors and geometric designs are perfect, and the techniques look challenging enough to keep it interesting, but simple enough to keep it from getting frustrating.

Free Butterfly Cross-Stitch Pendant Pattern
Danielle Thompson of Thompson Family-Life shares a sweet butterfly cross-stitch pattern that fits perfectly on a cool pre-drilled pendant. Even if you don't want to go the pendant route, the pattern would work well on an iPhone case or basic aida cloth. I love that her color choices have a nice retro vibe to them. Get the pattern and source info for the pendants over on her blog!

Wisdom Tooth Ring
Jewelry artist Shannon Larratt created a one-of-a-kind gift for his fiance for her birthday last week.
Quite a while ago she gave me permission to use her wisdom teeth (appropriate for her reaching a "wise-old age") that have been sitting in a jar of alcohol since she had them yanked out. So for a birthday present I spent some time welding and carving metal (this is all hand-formed, not cast like most of my rings) into a ring that holds the tooth along with a pair of moonstones.

How-To: Fabric Pendant
Long-time friend of CRAFT, Ellen Baker of The Long Thread, has a new fabric collection for Moda Fabrics called Quilt Blocks.
Inspired by traditional quilt designs, there are nine prints in the collection in three different colorways: shade, marine and spectrum.
The prints are delightful, charming and bold, and perfect for summer sewing projects. Today, she's sharing a simple project for making a cute fabric pendant.
Fabric Pendant
by Ellen BakerI've been loving all the fabric and embroidered jewelry that I see these days, so I decided to make my own using a bit of my new fabric collection for Moda, Quilt Blocks. The collection is inspired by the patterns of quilts, but with a modern twist. This simple necklace is easy and can truly be made in half an hour. You can find the pendant frames in various shops on Etsy by searching around. I got mine for four dollars, then used a chain that I had on hand. This would also be great with cross stitch or with a kid's stitched design.

Embroidery thread or pearl cotton

How-To: Freshwater Pearl Necklace with Asymmetrical Roses
Continuing the make-this-for-Mother's Day trend, this gorgeous freshwater pearl necklace with asymmetrical roses from Vicki at Vicki O'Dell The Creative Goddess is a great gift option for all of the moms out there who embrace classic vintage style.
There is something about Spring that makes me want to be a little more "girly" than usual. And you can't get much more romantic than pearls and roses.
Head on over to her site to see the full tutorial. Word to the wise: You might want to pick up enough supplies for two, because you're going to want one of your own!

How-To: Pom-Pomless Earrings, a Project Excerpt From Chic on a Shoestring by Mary Jane Baxter
Crafters know, almost better than anyone, how one of the best ways to go green with projects is repurposing an existing object, garment or accessory. It's not just economical, it's environmentally friendly, and it's no surprise that crafters excel at upcrafting. This week's book excerpt is a great example of repurposing and refashioning to maximize your budget and minimize your environmental impact.
Mary Jane Baxter is a former BBC foreign reporter whose new ventures bring her to the world of crafting and fashion. In her new book, Chic on a Shoestring, she shares more than 40 fashion and accessory projects to help you customize your look.
Chic on a Shoestring teaches readers how to recycle almost anything in the closet-- old clothes, shoes, scraps of fabric, broken necklaces, buttons--and convert them into stylish, vintage accessories. Readers will learn how to transform a colorful ribbon into a trendy belt, shoelaces into a stunning choker, a silk scarf into a seductive summer top, and much more.
Mary Jane is sharing her Pom-Pomless Earrings project from Chic on a Shoestring with CRAFT readers. Download the PDF below to see how to make these quick and cute accessories.
