Help Craft a New Cosplay Wardrobe for ThinkGeek's Timmy

think_geek_timmy_tauntaun.jpg

One of my all-time favorite sources for geeky goods is ThinkGeek, and their trusty monkey mascot, Timmy, is in need of some crafty assistance.

Timmy has been re-arranging the costumes in his cosplay trunk. We know what this means. San Diego Comic-Con is coming and we need stitchers, knitters, crochet hookers, hot gluers, haberdashers, and crafty-makers for Timmy's Volunteer Costume Corps!

We started this project two years ago and we still cannot adequately thank the volunteers that have made Timmy's current extensive collection possible. Each and every costume we've received has elicited squees of delight (video proof of the squees) and they've served us extremely well over the years. With your costumes, Timmy has traveled the world as an ambassador of geekery. He's met the shiniest people and probably flung poo in places that we will never see with our own eyes.

Do you have the time and skillz to take Timmy's cosplay collection from the trunk to the wardrobe? Scroll down for our costume wish list, take a look at his existing collection on Flickr, and sign up below to volunteer!

Be sure to check out some of the amazing costumes that have been made in the past, including the Tauntan/Luke Snowuit one pictured above (made by Mara Saxer).I can't wait to see what Timmy will be wearing next!

Felicia Day Learns to Crochet

felicia_day_learns_crochet.png

When actress Felicia Day launched her new YouTube channel, Geek & Sundry, I was thrilled. I was particularly intrigued by a very brief glimpse of her crocheting in the opening of her show, The Flog, where she shares her cool adventures each week. I've been waiting for the crochet episode to air, and when it came up this week, I was not disappointed. Day and Colin Ferguson visit KnitCulture in Los Angeles, where they learn basic crochet stitches and create their first amigurumi ... or something thereabouts. As with all her Flog episodes, hilarity ensues. Ferguson is delightfully surprising with his seeming natural stitching skills, and their finished characters are awesome. Enjoy! Thanks, Bonnie!

Knit Dalek Dog Sweater Pattern

dalek_dog_sweater_pug.png

It's times like these that I really wish I could knit. We have a Pekingese, not a Pug, but I think she'd still look totally rad in this Dalek dog sweater from Ravelry user, Peach Kraft. That's the cuddliest Dalek I've ever seen! Thanks, Kristin!

The Making of the Epic CAT-AT - An AT-AT Walker Cat Condo

cat_at_condo_complete.jpg cat_at_condo_interior.jpg

Reddit user BillyAppletini posted about this amazing CAT-AT (and AT-AT Walker cat house) that he made for a friend. His comment thread has a lot of fun information about the building process, and his image gallery contains pictures of the project in-progress. I - I mean my cat - desperately needs one of these ...

I wouldn't consider myself a great woodworker or an artist - but I will take credit for being committed to a joke. I wrecked my house for a month building this, which was about 27 days longer than I wish it would have taken. The trickiest part was keeping any of my friends from coming inside my place for that whole time - I knew they wouldn't be able to keep it a secret!

The inside of the CAT-AT has a fully furnished luxury cat condo.

I was originally going to forge an Amazon receipt and make it look like my buddy's cat ordered it on his Amazon account and have it delivered while he was at work, but enough was enough - when it was complete, I had to get it out of my loft and clean up.

I love the interior details like "trophy" bird heads mounted on the wall, a lighted bar with tiny liquor bottles, and a wee disco ball. This is amazing.
