Review: HP TopShot LaserJet Pro M275

Photo: HP TopShot

The HP TopShot LaserJet Pro M275 is not your average scanner/printer. Unlike a 2D scanning bed, which can only take images of items that can lie flat, the HP TopShot has a camera and lights attached to an arm that takes pictures from directly above the scanning bed (six images are captured and automatically combined into a one image.) This allows the user to document anything that fits reasonably under the camera's arm, which means the HP TopShot is ideal for documenting small 3D works that would be impossible to document with an average scanner (like a slice of pizza).

Cupcakewurst is cupcake batter cooked in a sausage casing. Put it on a donut that looks like a bun and add some raspberry topping instead of ketchup and the illusion is complete.

Evelin Kasikov's embroidery work has been featured on CRAFT before because her projects were so incredible, and her new work, called The Portrait Project, is no exception.

The Portrait Project is a set of 10 stitched portraits, all based on the same grid. Images are created by using different stitching methods and thread thicknesses. The grid consists of squares, crosses and diagonal lines. Each image is created by using some or all of the layers.

Digitally Designed Lace

Cristina-Suzuki-2.jpg

Cristina-Suzuki-1.jpg

Artist Cristina Suzuki created a series of illustrations called Rendas Digitais (Digital Lace) based on traditional textile techniques, which she mimics by processing her original drawings with graphic design software.

Lace looks complex, but it is actually simple details that together amplify the view and bring a complexity, startling the viewer. That's how I feel when I see the work of Northeastern weavers. And I've built my work from that. The difference? I don't use thread. Yet
