Today is a big milestone with our CRAFT Pattern Podcast's 100th pattern! Do-do-do-dooooo! (That's a horn toot, by the way.) To celebrate, Anna of Mochimochi Land has created for us a new pattern called "Weeeds". This little knit duo popped up in the backyard garden and look how adorable they are!

Inflatables as Plush Starters

Artist Mindy Sue Meyers figured out a way to curb her excessive use of fiberfill when making plushies by starting with inflatable pool toys. For her purposes, a kids' tube was a perfect base for this giant doughnut.

Summer Knitty

The summer issue of Knitty is up now and I'm loving the cover project, the deadliest crab. You'll find some great summer fashions in this issue where I'm loving this tangy cardigan for it's design and lovely turquoise bamboo yarn.

Flashback: Cro-Bot
While we're cranking away here at headquarters on the next issue (Volume 18) of our sister publication MAKE, themed Robots, I can't help but to Flashback to Beth Doherty's iconic Cro-bots from way back in CRAFT Volume 01. The design is simple enough that there's plenty of room for personalizing your Cro-bot to reflect your unique style. Here is the front and back of Beth's finished Cro-bot:

It's so much fun to see how peeps modded the Cro-bot. Here are 8 Cro-bots created by crafters and posted to Flickr. Clockwise, from top left, the Flickr peeps (and bot creators) are: beliael, disco smurf, knitbitch, tattis cuties, luv2stitch, craftapalooza, thebodee, and RunnyCustard:

Here is the Cro-bot project in our Digital Edition so you can crochet your own little robot army.
And you can still pick up a back issue of Volume 01, our Premier Issue, in the Maker Shed.

Killer Crochet
I first saw Howie Woo's work on Neatorama, but then quickly spent way too much time on his site checking out all his killer (get it?) crochet projects, from dynamite to ray guns to cigarettes. This guy has talent! And a wacky sense of humor, which is a mighty fine combination IMHO. (Be sure to check out his homemade videos!)
This Canadian native describes his work as "crochet creations inspired by life's fun oddities," and if his blog is to be believed, he's a crochet newbie who hasn't even been crocheting amigurumi for a year. Dude, did I mention he's got talent?! His work has inspired me to pull out my Visual Crochet how-to book and give learning to crochet another chance!

Flashback: DIY Stilts
With the weather getting nicer every day, it's time to get out the toys, and a perfect time to revisit a great project from back in CRAFT Volume 08: DIY Stilts! Written by veteran stilters Molly Graber and Chris Merrick, this project shows you how to use a pair of your own shoes, along with some wood, hardware, recycled mountain bike tires, strapping material, ABS pipe, foam padding, and a few other items to make your very own custom pair of stilts. I love the intro to this piece:
Have you ever dreamed of being really tall? Walking on stilts is a fun and adventurous sport. But where are you going to get a decent-priced pair of stilts to try for your first time? With these instructions, you can add as much height as you want and not hurt your wallet in the meantime. All you need is the know-how to use some simple tools — or a friend who can help!
Building your own pair of stilts ensures that they're made just for your body, and when you're done you've learned another crafty skill. Then all you need is someone to help you walk tall — and also how to fall. It's a blast and we highly recommend it. Stilt walking can be as easy as it looks.
You can start by making a shorter pair to get accustomed to walking on stilts and then graduate yourself up to a taller pair. Then, as a bonus, you can get crafty sewing yourself pants for the new super-tall you!
Check out the article in our Digital Edition to get started with your build. And if you don't already have Volume 08, pick it up in the Maker Shed, and also learn how to bonsai anything, make stained glass windows, make custom popsicle molds, make your own loom, weave, and then some.

How-To: Make a Crinkle Baby Toy
When my daughter was was a baby, she absolutely loved anything she could play with that made a crinkle noise. She had a favorite small alligator toy that had one section of its body filled with some kind of crinkle material, and it was her go-to toy for ages. Somewhere along the way, the alligator got lost and I always wished I'd come up with a way to make something to replace it. If only I'd had Susan Beal's adorable tutorial to follow back then! She's got a brilliant secret supply to add the special crinkle sound to this cute owl baby toy. Check out her tutorial on CraftStylish to see what she uses!
