the balloon is filled with water, so that probably helps it not pop when it comes into contact with the wax.
These are gorgeous and I really want to try making them. Also, this person cropped someone's watermarks out of their tutorial photos and just used them as is! At least she links to the real tutorial in the comments, but come on, people.

The balloon will not pop if you do not blow it up too much. It is better to use a slightly larger balloon and not blow it up as much.
