Book Review: Spooky Halloween Silhouettes

One of the best things about Halloween is haunted houses, and I've always admired and envied the folks who create them. I've fantasized about spooking up my own house for the month of October but I've never gone beyond synthetic spider webs on the gate, a couple of carved jack-o-lanterns, and a hanging bat or skeleton. To do more than that seems a little overwhelming - where do you start, and, more importantly, how much money and time will it take? My house ends up looking fun, but no way near haunted.

And then I got this photo of a haunted house sent to me by Spooky Halloween Silhouettes author Jeffery Rudell:

Rudell was hired to create a haunted house with only $100, and came up with these silhouettes. Wow! Low tech, cheap, easy, and spooooky. Perfect combo for me.

Now I have his 12" x 15" book ($10.95; published by Sterling Innovation), which includes 25 punch-out silhouettes, including shadowy figures such as a skull and crossbones, tombstones, spiders, bats, and more. As a bonus he offers 5 creepy images (Frankenstein, a zombie, witch, broom, and medieval weapon) with simple instructions so that you can create life-size copies. Here's an example:

I plan to use both the silhouettes from Rudell's book and to create some of my own. To get more details and hints on how to create your own silhouettes, as well as silhouette PDFs from the book that you can download, check out Rudell's CRAFT exclusive project today at noon.

I can't wait for my house to join the ranks of the haunted this year!

Can't wait for my copy to arrive! I am lucky to live near the original home. It's insane! Lines of cars taking a peek. So glad mine can look just as good.
