Rosie of Sweetapolita made this cake that looks like a bunch of asparagus, using fondant to cover the cake and sculpt all the asparagus spears. She made it for her sister-in-law, Mary, who was celebrating after a stint of healthy eating for a body building competition.
The week before her show, during a text conversation we were having, in response to "How are you doing?" she replied, "I'm loathing asparagus!" So, like any self-respecting sister-in-law and friend would do, I decided to to torment her with a green and spear-filled asparagus cake.
It sounds like it was a ton of work to make, but I think it was worth it - the cake is funny and quite unforgettable.
This cake makes me incredibly happy. The rubber band around it is the perfect added touch.
