Turning Phone Books Into Sculptural Gift Toppers

Michele Pacey occasionally embarks on crafting series on her blog, Michele Made Me. She takes one creative technique and makes a string of projects that explore its possibilities.

In her gum wrapper chain series, she adapted this time-honored technique into a beautiful gift topper (pictured above), a lampshade, a picture frame and wreath, and a bracelet.

I love all the cool things that can emerge when you settle into one idea for a while. And, what a great way to make use of old phone books!

Wait! Just looked at the instructions - it's isn't orange peel at all. Hmm, I'm gonna try mine from orange peel. Never know, right?

I really wish I still had my gum chain! It was just over 100' when I lost it in a move.... This is great! I'll be making the orange peel bracelet! Thanks for the inspiration!

I remember using gum wrappers as a child and making long chains of Juicy Fruit and Double Mint gum!!!

At least with the phone books you don't have to chew packs and packs of gum just to get the wrappers! What a great way to use the phonebooks....heck, you'll never run out of them!!!!
