High-Heeled Foot in the Door has a step-by-step tutorial for creating a personalized rug using fabric, a dropcloth, rug gripper material, and spray glue. In this example, the fabric has a chevron pattern, but you could choose anything.

I was looking for a rug to put under my dining room table, and this would be a great alternative. Easier and cheaper to clean than a wool rug!
