Upward: Free-Motion Embroidery

My friend, artist P.Nosa from Tucson, AZ, creates amazing free-motion embroidery with his solar-/pedal-powered sewing machine. Since drawing with a sewing machine is analogous to drawing without being able to pick up your pen, it requires more forethought than a regular drawing. This video captures his talent for maintaining a balance between intention and possibility.

P.Nosa will be at Maker Faire Bay Area next week. Find him there!

Great clip! I’ve seen him in action before, it's an amazing thing to watch.

It brings to mind the words of Michelangelo:

"A man paints with his brains and not with his hands.”

“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”

I look forward to seeing his talents again at the Maker Faire!
