Headbands are the best accessory for adding instant polish to a look. The right headband can easily tame even my unruly bangs. This project is super simple, and to get started, go through your stashes of ribbons and trim. Get creative with layers- mix and match different textures and colors until you find a combo that catches your eye.
At Maker Faire, I rocked a custom headband that I made with a Creatopia from Xyron. Xyron makes versitle and eco crafty tools and they set out tables in the Craft Lounge and in 5 minutes I was wearing my first version of this headband. I used the Creatopia to apply fabric adhesive to lace and ribbons and layered them into a the headband. The machine just cranks the material through and rollers apply a thin amount of non-toxic glue to pretty much anything. But, you if like, you can also make this project with any kind of glue- including fabric glue or even hot glue.

Step 1: Play with the colors, textures and layers of all your different ribbons. Pick three pieces, a long piece for the ties, a wider piece for the base ribbon, and some contrasting trim for the overlay. I chose this combo of vintage velvet paper ribbon with blue lace overlay and black lace ties.
Step 2: Cut 2 pieces each of the base ribbon, each 12" long. Cut 1 piece for the overlay, also 12" long. Cut about 1 yard for the tie.
Step 3: Add glue to the backs of the two base ribbon pieces and the back of the overlay piece. I just set my ribbons into the Creatopia and then turned the handle to run them through the machine. You can do this with the Xyron Sticker Makers or Creative Stations, or you can use hot glue or fabric glue.
Step 4: With glue on the back of both pieces of the the base ribbons, you can start to make headband layers. Center the long tie ribbon over the back of one of the base ribbons. Press the tie ribbon down firmly and evenly.
Step 5: Add the lace overlay to the top of the other base ribbon. Peel the lace from the waxed paper, and then line it up and press it down. If you need, trim the edges to help them match up perfectly.
Step 6: Now glue the base ribbons together, right sides facing out. This will sandwich the long tie between the two base ribbons. Voila!
