Ages 6 and Up

CRAFT: Super Crafty Kidz
I absolutely was in love with Shrinky Dinks as a kid. I couldn't get enough of them. But after I spent time tracing, coloring, and baking them, I never really knew what else to do with the finished pieces. With The Shrinky Dinks Book by Sherri Haab & the editors of Klutz your kids will definitely not have this problem! Along with 6 sheets of Shrinky Dink plastic, this spiral-bound book is filled with traceable color templates with directions and inspirational photos on how to create necklaces, charm bracelets, earrings, zipper pulls, pins, frames and more. It's a versatile book that can be used over and over again with extra shrink plastic or for other craft projects as well.

Book Giveaway Time!
Three lucky CRAFT readers will each receive a copy of The Shrinky Dinks Book along with Shrinky Dinks - Extra Shrinkable Plastic refills! Please make sure you include your email address in the comment form field (won't be published). All comments will be closed by Noon PST on Friday, November 6th. The lucky winners will be announced later on the site. Good luck!

Here's some of my favorite pages and projects from the book:
Shrinkydinksspread1
Full general directions on how to use Shrinky Dinks are included in the beginning of the book.

Shrinkydinks Spread2
I love this page with flower charms perfect for a bracelet or necklace and a page of cute earrings you can make.

Shrinkydinks Charmbracelet
Here's a finished charm bracelet.

Shrinkydinks Spread3
I love the traceable alphabet so you can also create your own cards and messages.

Shrinky Dinks = Awesome

Shrinky dinks are so much fun! It's something that my niece and I do together so this book would be great to give us ideas on our shrinky dink afternoons.

When I was a kid, my sister and I made Christmas ornament Shrinky Dinks. They hung from our tree for years and years.

It brings me right back to Speak n Spell, Koosh balls, Rubix cubes and other fun toys we used in the early 80s. So glad these are making a come back.

SHRINKY DINKS BOOK GIVEAWAY

I am so happy that this book has been published! I have all of Sherri Haab's books, and even though I am 55 years young, I still love Klutz' books! I truly believe that as long as one knows how to play and be creative, youth is eternal! My future grandchildren are so lucky! I would love to win this book, but even if I don't, I will buy it.

shrinky dink book giveaway

This is something that I've been thinking about adding to my jewelry (in my own way) for awhile, so I would love a copy of this book! I never did shrinky dink stuff as a kid, so I'm one of the few that needs to learn, plus it would be something that my son could help me with!

Posted by: Anonymous on November 4, 2009 at 11:37 AM

I like to think I'm crafty, or at least I dabble in a number of media and project types, but have to say that Shrinky Dink is so easy and yes, versitile to use. Lately I've been doing magnets and cell phone charms.

On the whole, definitely a favourite material!

Posted by: Tracy C. on November 4, 2009 at 11:07 AM

I haven't used shrinky dinks since I was kid. I actually saw someone make some stitch markers from shrinky dinks, so cute. I think this would be something fun to try with the kid.

This is SO KEWL!!! If I win, I will have total control over the shrinky-dinks, which has kinda been a life-long dream of mine; no brothers or sisters leaning over and scribbling on MY design or getting the last piece of plastic because they wrecked their first one and cried (wow- maybe I need a side of therapy with the shrinky-dinks...)

Shrinky Dink Goodness

I remember when my mom let me do Shinky Dinks for the first (and last time) when I was young. I thought they were the coolest thing ever, but once the plastic was done, it was done, and I never really repeated the process.

But, it looks like my own daughter might not have this problem. Getting this in my crafting library may make many a rainy day go by much faster!

Posted by: Arika on November 3, 2009 at 12:27 PM
