3D Painting Street Art

here lies street art.jpg

I'm really inspired by the perfect 3D illusion created by Felipe Perdomo and Ausias Pérez of D.O.C.S. for the Festival Cuarto Asalto in Spain. Using just spray paint, the artists create organic lettering that appears to be growing on the wall. Here's one of the artists in action and a closeup of one of the letters:

The piece reminds me of the moss graffiti tutorial we ran in CRAFT Volume 04.

Moss Graffiti?

LOVE this piece, and I loved the moss graffiti tutorial too, but does it actually work? The article in CRAFT featured moss freshly laid in the ground, and I've seen examples of eco-graffiti artists using a buttermilk and moss-spore "paint" on concrete, but does it actually grow? I love the idea of moss graffiti, but I have yet to find an image of a lasting example. Has anyone else seen it?

Hi Ann,

Thanks for your comment! I too love the moss graffiti piece (and will run it as a Flashback feature next week to introduce it to folks who haven't seen it). The author of that article, Helen Nodding, does say that the design she created took about 6 weeks to grow into its final form. In the right type of moist environment, the piece should continue to flourish as regular moss does.

Cheers,
Goli
