During these tough economic times the only traveling some of us get to do is across the world wide web. Thanks to cool gadgets like the iPhone, though, that internet trip can be taken anytime and anywhere! Every travel buddy clearly deserves proper attire — so if you've ever thought about journeying into the land of knitted lace, then this Traveling Vine iCozy's the project for you!

Materials

Scraps of sock-weight yarn
Size US 3 needles
Tapestry needle
Button
Sewing needle
Thread
Crochet hook

Gauge: 5½ sts = 1" in garter stitch

Finished size: Approx. 4¼" wide, stretches to fit iPhone or iPod

Abbreviations

CO= cast on
K= knit
P= purl
RS= right side
st(s)= stitch(es)
yf= yarn forward
KB= knit through the back of stitch
k2tog= knit 2 stitches together
p2tog= purl 2 stitches together
tbl= through the back loop

Row 1 (RS): K1, *yf, KB1, yf, k2tog tbl, k5; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2: P5, *p2tog tbl, p7; rep from* to last 6sts, p2tog tbl, p4.
Row 3: K1, *yf, KB1, yf, k2, k2tog tbl, k3; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 4: P3, *p2tog tbl, p7; rep from * to last 8 sts, p2tog tbl, p6.
Row 5: K1, *KB1, yf, k4, k2tog tbl, k1, yf; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 6: P2, *p2tog tbl, p7; rep from * to end,
Row 7: K6, *k2tog, yf, KB1, yf, k5; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2tog, yf, KB1, yf, k1.
Row 8: P4,*p2tog, p7; rep from* to last 7 sts, p2tog, p5.
Row 9: K4, *k2tog, k2, yf, KB1, yf, k3; rep from * to last 6sts, k2tog, k2, yf, KB1, yf, k1.
Row 10: P6, *p2tog, p7; rep from * to last 5 sts, p2tog, p3.
Row 11: K1, *yf, k1, k2tog, k4, yf, KB1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 12: *P7, p2tog; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.

Directions

CO 26 sts.
Knit 4 rows.
Knit 12 row pattern, 4 times.
Knit 4 rows. (You'll have 56 rows total.)
BO.

Finishing

Weave in the ends. Fold the cozy in half, and seam up the sides.

Using a crochet hook, join the yarn to the center of the top edge of one side of the cozy. Crochet a long enough chain to create loop for button. Sew the end of the chain down, to create a loop.

Sew on the button, to the center of the top edge of the opposite side of the cozy.

TY for this pattern! I'm so glad it is still available. I usually miss the great things. It's wonderful to see you Vicki - I miss watching your knitting show on TV. That's where I learned to knit - and I'm currently knitting a cable sweater!

So perfect! I was just thinking about lace patterns the other day but didn't know where to start. Now I do!
