License Plate Memo Board
Turn retired plates into a road trip display.
By Tiffany Threadgould

Licenseplatememo Main
Take your retired plates for one more trip around the block. License plates work great as a memo board because they already have two built-in holes to hang from. The rest is easy as cruise control.

Tip: There are two types of plates out there: aluminum and steel. Test yours with a magnet first to make sure your magnets will hold up. If yours is aluminum, you can always give it a quick coat of magnetic paint.

Materials

Old license plate
Hardware We used wing nuts.
Super-strong magnets
Super glue
2 screws
2 washers
Screwdriver
Paint and paintbrush (optional)

Directions

Step 1: Start with a clean license plate. You can use an old toothbrush to scrub the hard-to-clean areas. If there's a lot of rust and grime, you can paint over the entire surface with acrylic paint and a paintbrush.

Licenseplatememo Step2
Step 2: To make the magnets, use super glue to attach super-strong magnets to the underside of the hardware. We used wing nuts for ours because they're easy to grip. Let dry for 24 hours before using.

Licenseplatememo Step3
Step 3: Using the 2 holes already in the top of the license plate, place a washer on top of each hole and screw in the memo board to the wall. Now you're ready to take your new memo board for a test drive. Attach your favorite photos and notes. You get bonus points for using pictures from a recent road trip!
