9-hole buttons make it easy to spell out letters on your garment. Design Sponge has a tutorial for making your own out of sculpey clay based on ABC Button's design.

brilliant! i've been trying to think of some nice embellishment for a birthday card this might be it!!! fingers crossed i have some clay stuff in the craft cupboard!!!
