Today is the release of Feltique! The book is beautiful, if I do say so myself, and I am happy to announce that Potter Craft has graciously decided to let me give 5 copies away to CRAFT readers. There are many ways to make felt, and make projects with felt, and Feltique covers them all, including wet felting, needle felting, fulled felt, and commercial felt crafts. Feltique has 46 projects for every skill level, from jewelry and accessories to toys for babies and repurposed clothing. More than 15 of the projects were created by contributors from around the globe, representing an amazing number of creative craft styles.
This book is relevant not only because the projects are fashionable and interesting, but because of the low cost of the materials needed. They will fit into your craft budget, and help you build your affordable gift stash. My personal favorites include a necklace made from commercial wool felt using a scrapbooking punch, the needle felted cuff bracelet, and the stunning wet felted scarves, including one that's nuno felted.
Besides just projects, the book gets into some heady felt territory, including tackling the question: what IS felt? The answer, in a nutshell? One basic tenet covers each type of felt: generally speaking, any non-woven fabric can be considered felt. But in the craft world, and in Feltique, we consider fabric that has been knitted and washed until the stitches shrink together to be felt. Strictly speaking they are "fulled," but we include them in the category of felt because if fulled fabric can be cut without unraveling, it has the properties of felt. Feltique also hits on the origins of felt and the science of felt, all while presenting beautiful art that's accessible for every crafter.

I just discovered this entry 5 minutes after its closing. But, no matter, it looks like a very fun idea book as well as how-to book. I am still teaching myself to wet-felt and loving every minute of it. And for anyone who is interested in seeing what can be done with felt (especially if you have lots of people to help you :)), the Cooper-Hewitt in NYC is having a fabulous show that I just saw last week.

My life has been hard lately. My knitting/stitching/composing has been a life saver. I have practiced colour and texture therapy to get through - but this book would see/inspire me to heal further. Some of the artists are among my very dear favorites.

i could justify owning this book based solely on how lovely the photos and projects are. pure eye candy. it's just icing on the cake that i have more wool than should be legal and a love of dyeing it and felting it.

I need this book because I have two BIG bags of sheep's wool from the local 4H kids and want to put all of it to good use. Perhaps even teach the 4H girls about carding and felting and dyeing... then they'll want to keep their big bags of wool!

What a GORGEOUS book - and a great way to use up some of my ever-growing wool yarn stash - This would be a great craft to do with friends . . . I really love the discovery process involved when I knit or crochet something and full it in the washer--it's like watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly--and I would really like to try other felting projects!

For me, wet felting was love at first sight. I loved it the very first time I tried it, even though I seldom have the patience to do large projects. I've been dying to try needle felting, and would love to learn to do more with craft felt from the store and with fulling crocheted wool yarn. This book sounds wonderful!

I love to craft and I've tried almost all. haven't tried felting because I find it intimidating, yeah, I know. I lack of funds to attend a formal workshop, as a matter of fact, I am self taught in every crafting technique I know. I have to specially thank this blog that keeps feeding me with new ideas, and this great giveaway.
It would be great if I could have a copy of it to expand my crafting horizons, the first thing I would do is the cover project but as the neckline of a sweater

I love felt and wool and have started learning/teaching myself about wet and needle felting.
I have some needles now and some wool tops.I've been to a workshop and I've made a couple of small things but want to get better!
Slowly but surely I go from charity shop to charity shop in search of sweaters to felt.

I have been watching felting take off ,every were I look people are felting. I need this book to keep up with the young folks. (By the way it makes me feel good to see so many young people do some thing creative with there hands and minds.) I have been crafting for over 60 years. Never did felting.

This giveaway is fantastic!! I would love this book... I have been needlefelting for the past year as well as attempting to wet felt some things... first: because the technique is adorable
and I don`t have anywere to learn, I live in sudamenrica
in Santiago, Chile, and the book never came to
this country, so I have to make do with videos
on youtube :s.
second: because I have a project to make wild
animals into needle felting and all my felting attempts have failed.
and third: because we really I used a lot, would
be a great help as a tutorial for new techniques,
since this is unknown where I live, here comes
across years later.

I have been teaching fiber arts (knitting, weaving) to the kids in our arts program for two years. Last year I fell in love with felting - especially needle felting. Then the kids fell in love. They BEGGED me to teach them. No, no. Too dangerous. Too hard. They wouldn't hear it. Sooooooooo .....I gave in. Now even the 6 year olds (yes, 6) are turning out Ggloriously creative pouches, beads, wristbands and even 3-D animals. Please help me! I need more to teach them. More ideas. More techniques. Help me keep the spark alive. The kids will thank you.

I am an avid crafter and I was recently laid off from my job of almost 3 years at a TV station. I was forced to move back in with my parents and collect my meager unemployment checks that barely cover the bills. I need this book because felt is a very affordable fabric and the amount of projects that can be done with it are endless. I'd like to expand my crafting abilities in hopes that I will be able to sell some of my projects to bring in some income so I can continue going to school. I hope you will consider me. I need this book because I am going to be teaching an after-school felting class at my kids' elementary school this fall, & I am busily building my felting library as I plan the curriculum. I've been doing some simple wet felting projects in my daughter's kindergarten class, & seeing how much the kids love it has gotten me excited about figuring out some super-cool projects for next year...the practicing & project-making I have to do on the way is an excellent bonus for me, right?

I need this book because I all my felting attempts have failed. My most recent victims of bad felting technique were my daughter's white cloth diapers. I thought to myself, I wash them in hot water, what's the big deal to throw in a black sweater? Okay, so I may really need a book on what to do when common sense flies out the window, but I'm sure this one can help too!

I need this book, because a) I love felt, b) I thought I was supercool as a kid, because I had those little wool comb things and could make felt at home, though I never had wool, and my combs were gnarly, c) I am trying to improve my sewing, and felt is so kindly and forgiving d) I agreed to make craft projects for a number of friends, some of them facebook people I haven't seen in years, and I need inspiration and instruction.

I don't NEED this book. In fact, I have never felted a day in my life. But, when I read about how inexpensive, yet useful items can be made using felting, I thought of something great: taking skills from a book that was won, and using them to make scarves/bags/toys and donating these items to shelters.
I don't expect to win, I am merely posting this idea in hopes that people will see this, and act on my idea in their own hometowns.

I love everything about wool and felt. I started knitting about 6 months ago and hand-spinning my own yarn with a drop spindle about 3 months ago. I feel like felting is the next step and this book would be the perfect inspiration.

Looks like a great book. I am sure I would love it. I am a jeweler that uses felting along with traditional metal working techniques. I am self taught with felt but would love to learn more and use more in my artwork.

I have been loving all the Needle Felted Creatures on Etsy and wanted to be able to make my own. Plus this brings be back to childhood when my mom would take me to the Fabric store and let me pick out squares of Felt to cut up at home or even better to make something for CCD out of. Oh! those were the days.

I would love to have this book. As a weaver and spinner I do occasionally have projects that "fail"...and I keep every piece of felted handwoven material that I have made... and I hate to say it, I have more than a few pieces. Just think... hand felted handwoven and then there are those wool sweaters that I dont wear anymore... my "age" keeps me plenty warm thank you!

Hello there! I'm currently a college student looking for a way to use up all this colored wool I picked up at a recycling center for art supplies. I've never tried needle-felting before, but for the longest time I've wanted to learn. All the amazing needle-felted animals I've seen on this blog really have inspired me. I have this project going on where I try to craft octopus (or some other cephalopod) in every crafty medium and technique I can get my hands on. I'm knitting one right now. I have sculpted AND caned octopi from polymer clay. I've drawn them (and offered the line art up as free embroidery patterns on my blog), I've embrodiered them, and I suspect felt could open up a whole new world of cephalopodean opportunities. A needlefelt octopus? Maybe I could knit and felt an octopus purse? I don't know; while I know felt is an amazingly versatile medium, I find I'm rather unfamiliar with its various techniques and applications. And that last sentence, right there? That's why I need this book.

Growing up, the only felt I knew of came in pre-cut squares. I recall a few modgepodge Mother's Day cards put together with a few cut out fun from these squares nicely glued onto the construction paper with white glue.
But now the world of felt has become so much more than just standard squares in the craft store. But how much and what I'm still trying to grasp and learn. So far the only other window into felting I've looked into is needle felting.
This books seems to cover it all - wet, nuno, fabric, needle and much much more. All in one book? *gasps*
I'll cross my fingers and hope I can get an invitation to the felt party.

I love felt and keep stashing tons of it but never think of anything creative to do with it so it sits there all lonely among other craft supplies, neglected and sad.

There are several reasons why I need this book. I love making arts and crafts, and felting is something that I have never tried before. I try to only give homemade presents as birthday gifts and Christmas presents, and I need some new ideas. I love wearing homemade jewelry, and I would love to make some knickknacks to decorate my college dorm room with. Also, I'm about to be an aunt for the first time, and I'd love to be able to make some cute gifts for my nephew.

I need this book because I saw someone felting in a mixed media class I took, and fell in love with the idea. I went out and bought some tools and some fibers... but never figured out how to use them to make anything! now they have been sitting around being useless and bringing me shame. This past weekend I had the most magnificent time at the Coggeshell Farm Fiber Festival in Bristol, RI (ON my birthday!). And am absolutely hooked on fibers! I purchased some raw wool and am dying (no pun intended!) to wash it and pull it into yarn or just some gorgeous fiber for felting. I'd love to have some inspiration for the what's instore for the wool!

I have lots of left over felt from a donation pillow drive my organization did with an local hospital, it would be great to get some more ideas for further donations!

i've just started making small forays into the world of felt and this book looks like the perfect guide to help me gather the courage necessary to take on some bigger challenges.

Hello,
I would like this book because ever since I started to follow you all on twitter, I covet every single last thing you show me. Coveting is a big no-no, but its ok, I go to confession and I'm willing to say those extra Hail Mary's to satisfy my crafting habit. Due to the current economical climate I find myself with a lot of time on my hands all of a sudden. And you know that idle hands do the devil's work. So, I guess what I'm saying is that you should give me a book so I can felt my way back into my Shepherd's fold instead. Without a book to giude me, any which craft could be my ticket to eternal damnation.

I NEED this book because I am a budding felter, and I'm about to have the rug pulled out from under me! I'm moving to a place where I almost certainly will not have access to a washing machine, and I need to expand my bag o' felting tricks to adapt.

I've never worked with felt except with the yucky stuff when I was in preschool. I've just been getting into fiber arts and I would love a book that has an overview of all things felty! In particular I am interested in making felt softies/dolls and needle felting a tiny yorkie to resemble my tiny dog.

I need this book so that I can give it to my mother-in-law who has just started to teach herself needle felting and has an amazing talent! Her work is amazing, and it makes her feel so good that this craft is really for her, after years of trying to oil paint and having her projects turn out badly. She is a great influence in my life, and in the lives of my children, and I would love to say thank you by helping her to develop her art.

I'm obsessed with the versatility and texture of wool sculture! I've done needle felting and felting crochetted wool in the washing machine, but I'm dying to learn more tricks with felt, and would love to learn wet felting.

I NEED this book because I'm currently obsessed with felt and wool. I've been looking for the perfect book on working with felt since I started needle felting late last year. None of the other books out there have quite the level of awesome I am seeking, but this book looks like it has the perfect combination of different techniques, squids, and science!!

I teach a home-ec class for young and teenaged girls. I fund all the craft projects, snacks and materials from my own budget, and it can become quite expensive- but it's a labor of the heart.
So far, my "girls" have learned to knit, sew, photograph, crochet and cook, but we've never attempted felting.
This book would be a great addition to our resource library that I let the girls borrow from. I think my class would LOVE using the ideas from this book for class projects. :)

As an avid knitter, I've long known that felting was another way to manipulate yarn. But I haven't managed to give it a try yet. With guidance from this book, I think I'll be ready to take the plunge!

I need this book because I have been wanting to do felting for a long time, but I'm so accident-prone that I'm afraid of peircing myself! However, after looking at all the amazing projects, I think I could put my fear aside ;)

I would love to get a copy of this. I have been looking for the perfect craft to share with my daughter. She would absolutley love this. She's a bit too young for embroidery, but many of these projects would be great for her.

I i really would love this book because i teach fiber arts at a kids creative art camp all summer- when i teach felting we do it swim suits so it does not matter how wet we get ... ( we live in New Orleans .. so its hot!!) - and i need this book cos we want to explore lots of new and exciting methods of felting!!! and get more fun out of our fleece...

This book would be perfect for me! Sitting in my closet are two bags full of wool ready for felting (a Christmas present from a friend), and I have no idea what I want to do with them. I've been staring at uninspired patterns and ideas in a variety of books to no avail, but those necklaces are things of beauty.

I need this book because i have been looking long enough at playing with felt and it's time to jump in. apparently quilting, embroidery, and other sewing crafts just aren't enough. and i need something that i can accomplish since crochet is currently just out of reach for me :)
