Fabric Yo-Yo Cover-Up
Give that skirt another go with scrap fabric yo-yos.

By Tiffany Threadgould

Have a stain on your favorite skirt? Give it a pick-me-up and make it better with interchangeable fabric yo-yos. Fabric yo-yos were popular in the 19th century as a way to reuse scraps of fabric. Now they can be used as a playful addition to cover up stains and holes. Mix them, match them, and get ready to yo-yo.

1. Find a lid that's about 4.5" or 5" in diameter. This will be the pattern for your yo-yos. Place the lid on top of a piece of scrap fabric, trace, and cut.

2. Sew a buttonhole in the center of the circle.

3. Fold .25" of the circle's raw edge toward the wrong side of the fabric and secure with a running stitch. Stitch around the entire circle.

4. Once you've stitched around the perimeter, gently pull the ends of thread until the edges gather at the center. Make a few stitches to secure your gathers.

5. Sew buttons onto the skirt. Attach your yo-yos onto the buttons and go play!
