CRAFT Recipe: Ranch Dressing

craftreciperanchdressing.jpg

I first made this dressing out of necessity when we had forgotten to buy some to go with our chicken wings on super bowl Sunday. I always thought it would be hard to make my own ranch, especially judging by the long list of ingredients on the bottle. It turns out it's not that hard, and after studying several recipes online and trying a few things out, I settled on these proportions for a tasty homemade ranch dressing. I put this tutorial on Instructables, too.

Ingredients:
.5 cup mayonnaise
.5 cup whole yogurt
.25 cup 2% milk
2 tbsp. chopped celery leaves
1.5 tbsp. chopped fresh dill
1.5 tbsp. minced onion (sweet or red)
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp. dijon mustard
2 tsp. lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste

Tools:
medium mixing bowl
whisk
measuring cups
knife
cutting board
food processor (optional but nice)

Toss the onion and garlic in the food processor or dice by hand, then whisk together all ingredients. Let the flavors mix by chilling for an hour before serving. It's great with veggie sticks or on salad, or even with Buffalo wings. You can vary the herbs to what you have and also change up the mayo/yogurt proportions for different effects.
