Silk City Fibers, a wholesale supplier of cone yarns to knitwear designers and weavers, opens its doors the second Saturday of every month to regular yarn lovers like us. The next Silk City Fibers Outlet Day is Saturday, September 13th from 9 AM to 1 PM. If you make the trip to Paterson, put your pictures online so we can all share in the yarn goodness. One warning however, Silk City Fibers does not offer patterns or support.
The Silk City warehouse is massive and industrial; comfortable shoes are suggested. Stocked yarns include cashmere, baby alpaca, bamboo, organic cotton, and chenille, and the color range is vast--see the Silk City website for further information about the collection.

Silk City opens their doors to the public on the 2nd Saturday of EVERY month! I've been there. It's not really their entire warehouse... it's a half a dozen large rooms full of their products. Yes, they are FULL!
The staff there is very helpful and the selection is great. You can get some super bargains, but I'm still not entirely sure of some of the fiber content of the cones I purchased. From what I understand, they don't really manufacture the fibers there (although I think they used to) ... they are a importer and distributor and put many of the fibers under their own brand. Nevertheless, a good time was had, a few hours were spent and a few hundred dollars later, I came home and started weaving! It's easy to find and the neighborhood isn't too bad for Paterson.
