Crafty Makers: What Skills Can You Bring to the Table?

call_for_Crafty_Makers_aug_18.jpg

The deadline for Maker applications is just more than two weeks away. Why let the robotics folks have all the fun? Crafters make fantastic Makers, and have loads of valuable knowledge to share with Maker Faire participants.

Some of us learned our crafty skills at grandma's knee, but what if you didn't have that opportunity? Or how about the fact that grandma couldn't teach things like crochet with plastic grocery bags or how to make shrink plastic trinkets with leftover containers from the deli counter? Was your grandma making zines and teaching you about them? Was she screen printing or binding books? Makers can take up where grandma left off, and share all levels of skills and ranges of projects at Maker Faire.

If you have a special skill or project you'd like to share with the Maker Faire Austin crowd, here's your chance. Simply submit a proposal through the Maker Faire web site by September 4 (the sooner, the better!). Submitting a proposal is simple and doesn't take long. You'll need to have a description of your project, pictures or sketches of what you plan to do (and a URL where those pictures can be accessed), and an idea of how you'll need your booth set up to work.

Be sure to read the official Call for Makers, information for AustinMakers and download a copy of the Austin Maker Manual for more information.

Austin is a hotbed of creativity and crafty skills, and with thousands of visitors attending Maker Faire, it's the perfect opportunity to make sure those skills are passed on to our community.
