Passport-Themed Save the Date Cards
This "Save the Date" card whipped up by Craftster user Synne is one of the more creative ones I've seen--she made them look like passports, since she's having a destination wedding. Very clever! Check out the original thread for more photos of the card's contents, and to see the handmade luggage tags she made to accompany the cards.

Mini Caramel Apple Tutorial

Sakurako Kitsa on Flickr posted up her mini caramel apple recipe. She interpreted the recipe from watching Cat Cora do a similar technique on Iron Chef. I love the use of the melon baller to make the smaller, bite-sized shape. [ via Yoonie-at-Home ]

Crochet Wasp Be Gone Nest

Noreen of Hankering for Yarn has a pattern to make this crochet wasp be gone nest. Apparently, wasps will see this and go elsewhere to build their nest thinking that another hive's already there. [ via Lime & Violet ]

BurdaStyle Launches How To Series
Last night BurdaStyle launched their new How To series at the fabulous Mood fabric store in Manhattan. If you don't know Mood already, it is the store where Project Runway contestants get their fabric for challenges. First, we got some information about how to select fabric for projects and then Mood owner Eric Sauma gave us a tour of the store. Benedikta from BurdaStyle was wearing the amazing Kasia skirt and now I can't wait to go back to Mood and buy the fabric to make it myself. The whole event was streamed live by Etsy Virtual Labs. See all my photos from the event.

Meet Me at Mikes lets us know that the first round of eleven softies are up for auction on eBay - raising funds for The Mirabel Foundation, which supports the children of families affected by substance abuse. You can read more about it in our previous Craftzine post. And there's still time to make a softie for Mirabel too!

Bay Area Backroads - Places for Kids to DIY (Video)

I had the pleasure of being a guest again on Bay Area Backroads with host Doug McConnell. Check out this segment , "Do It Yourself 4 Kids", where I cover some great kid craft places in the Bay Area (there are links on the right if you scroll down the page). The first segment I filmed aired earlier in May and covered Bay Area places to DIY.

Getting Started With RSS

A few times at craft fairs I get technology questions and one that I get from some crafters is about RSS. I just did an article on PC.com on how to get started with RSS where you can learn more about how to easily read your favorite craft blogs!

Reverse-Appliqué Octopus
Shawnee from Life with Monkey was inspired to rework a pair of damaged jeans with a reverse-appliqué octopus motif after seeing Kayte Terry's birdie appliqué on This is Love Forever. They both look great!

Dharma Initiative Scarf

I could not believe this find in the CRAFT Flickr pool: user genegrl1 made this scarf featuring the symbols for the different dharma initiative stations from the TV show Lost. It's reversible, so it looks like she used a double knitting technique.

HOW TO - Grow Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass has lots of uses. The juice is good for you (and even tasty), and your cat just might love it. Instructables user itschrys has a tutorial up for growing your own, which is pretty easy when you have the right tools and supplies. I feel healthier even just looking at the pictures!

Color-Wheel Quilt
Craftster user Tangerine_Dreams did a fantastic job making the Color Wheel Quilt from Joelle Hoverson's book Last-Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts. I especially love the colorful backing fabric she chose, which coordinates in a really playful way.

HOW TO - Use Fold-Over Elastic
Amy from Angry Chicken filmed this fun video explaining how to use fold-over elastic in your sewing projects. She also provides a handy list of tutorials that utilize the stuff, including her 5-Minute Skirt project. (FYI, if the video claims to be unavailable, just try again later--it may be that too many people are watching it.)

Stitch N' Pitch 2008 with the SF Giants Wrap-Up

We had a great time last Tuesday at the Stitch N' Pitch game with the SF Giants. Tina, Arwen, and I worked the CRAFT table before the game getting a chance to talk to all you fabulous crafters. During the 5th inning, SF Giants' mascot Lou Seal was joined by his mom (pictured above) who showed off knitting our CRAFT: 07 cover sneakers! You can see the rest of the photos from the event in my Flickr set.
There are more Stitch N' Pitch games happening throughout the U.S. this Summer. To check out the full schedule, visit the Stitch N' Pitch web site.

Check out the refashioned SF Giants Converse Sneakers our own Meara O'Reilly made just for the event! She used bandanas from the SF Giants' 50th Anniversary celebration as the fabric.
