This past Saturday in Providence, RI, artist, designer, and RISD professor Liz Collins staged, Knitting Nation Phase 4: PRIDE. The piece is an homage to and reconstruction of the original rainbow pride flag. Created by an army of uniformed machine knitters, the knit rainbow flag ascended the steps and hill at Waterplace Park over the course of 6 hours, engaging all who enter this picturesque public space in the center of Providence. Knitting Nation is ongoing, collaborative performance and site-specific installation project. It explores aspects of textile and apparel manufacturing, laying bare the process of making machine knitted fabric.
