Well, I'm moving soon, and getting rid of things I don't actually need, but I held this book in my hands at my favourite fabric shop and almost bought it the other day--I resisted, but I don't think I should have! Having this will help me make my new place feel like home.

Ooh, I would love to win this book I have bland white walls that could use a bit of life.

Posted by: BrendaLea on June 5, 2008 at 8:54 AM

Oh how I would love to win this book. I need to spruce up my clothing which is so bland and this sounds like a great way to learn to do it myself.

Eep, I'm hoping the 10 am is PST, as I just saw this! I LOVE Lotta's stuff -- she is a fairly recent designer find for me -- and I love printmaking. I've figured a bit out on my own, but I'd adore more inspiration and instruction.

Posted by: lazergir1 on June 5, 2008 at 8:52 AM

I need this book because I'm NOT a printmaker and I have a huge white room that is begging for Ms. Jansdotter's stunning designs!

Wow, if there were instances beyond coincidence, this would be it. I'm currently working with interior clean-up and decor of a local counseling and health center for abused children. While I have plenty of experience working with textiles, I do not have so much with decorating in general. After looking up her website and art, I'm rather intrigued and inspired. I think using her techniques along with our own ideas (and interests that some of the little ones have voted in on, such as a "Forest room"), we could make something these kids would really enjoy coming to on their way to getting back their childhoods.
Thank you for at least the opportunity. =)

Ooooh YAY!

Love Lotta! This book has been high on my wish list since it hit the shelves! The projects are so fun!

Posted by: Joanna on June 5, 2008 at 7:09 AM

I've been inspired by Lotta's work ever since Simple Sewing - I actually have a lot of experience sewing already, but I was tempted to buy her first book just because I was so drawn to her fabric choices and prints. The hardest thing for me in starting a sewing project is finding the right fabric, so I would just love to have this book to help me learn to make the fabrics I covet! I love Lotta's work.

Posted by: mztallulah on June 5, 2008 at 6:57 AM

I'd love to have this book because I'll be having a baby in a few months, and I'd love to decorate her room and her clothes myself, and I love Lotta's style.

Posted by: hongkongfong on June 5, 2008 at 6:33 AM

Well there are a lot of reasons, the chief reason being that I was a printmaker in college, working in the printmaking studio and interning at the Lower East Side Printshop, but now I have moved out, and am struggling to find inspiration in my 'studio' which is a windowless basement. I do think that this book is it. Other than that, this book would look great on my coffee table, and probably, you know I really want it, because if I didn't get it for free, I would probably buy it anyway (but you're not supposed to know that!).

Thank you for being a great zine and a great blog.

I want to print my own fabric! If I don't win I'll figure it out on my own, but a book would be nice :)

for printing more than shamrocks!

Here in Dublin, Ireland, the crafty resources are limited, so this book would help me make that next great leap forward, craftwise!

Posted by: Kakariki on June 5, 2008 at 1:44 AM

A bad move

See we decided that we needed new curtains to make our house more energy efficient thus save wallet and planet. So we (being poor) bought this ugly green motley fabric that looks so much uglier in hindsight, but it was very cheap. For good reason apparently.

Anyhoo, we discussed the other night about how we could make it really cool if we put stencils on it.

But of course we have no clue how to do that. But I do have some fabric paint!

Posted by: Jesse on June 5, 2008 at 12:13 AM

I've started printing on cloth, and need this book to find out as much as possible about printing techniques.

I've been eyeballing this book. I only dabbled in printmaking (mainly a bit of eraser stamps and the gocco). I'm looking forward to learning more techniques to embellish clothes. Fashion these days aren't very flattering for plus-sized gals. I'd like to be able to make one of a kind pieces for myself--and still look styling of course!

Posted by: Lori on June 4, 2008 at 8:38 PM

I heart jotta

I got her sewing book and now I want to check out this new gem. Her designs are classic, simple and whimsical all at the same time. If I can't have my own design talent, I can now borrow hers! I wish I could attend one of the participatory events.

Plus Ms. Jansdotter's design sense is fabulous.

And I deserve this book because I promise to use my new skills for good and not evil. Well mostly good. Only a little bit of evil, and even then only when it is really really funny.

I'm really interested in all of such craft / sewing / diy kind of things and it is really difficult to get materials, books and inspiration down here (apart from the web, of course). from brazil, willing to win this lotery-like prize (how many people already commented!!)

I have been coveting this book! We just moved into a new house and only one of the rooms has gotten painted thus far. I've been wanting to do something other than solid colors, and this book would be the perfect tool! Stenciling would also help out with other fabric projects in my life (I work for a professional costume shop).

I'd love to use this book for inspiration when decorating my daughter's cubby house! I was thinking of stenciling a retro wallpaper design on the walls only yesterday!

Well, I would love to win this book, because since I flipped through it at a bookstore, I have been dreaming of it since! I'm living on a limited budget + self-imposed no-buy, so It has taken every ounce of will power I've got not to buy it!

I'm a big fan of printmaking, but I've never tried printing on fabric, so I think this book would help me take the plunge. I foresee a printed linen table runner for my coffee/dining table...

Golly!

I am a military wife, and living as we do, I've never been allowed to, well, paint on the walls or really get my foot in the home decorating door. We move too much, or military housing just doesn't allow the kind of freedom I crave.

But my husband will be getting out of the military soon, and the first thing on our list is to buy a house - our first house, that will be ours alone, since we've been together. And once we get a house, gosh, there are just so many things to do! And one of the things on my wish list is to do a lot of the work and designs myself. Well, kind of. I want to print my own curtains (I've never had real curtains before!), print or make my own throw pillows, and do my own artwork. I want to stencil leaves and trees on the walls. (Goodness, who needs wallpaper anyway?)I want to personalize the furniture, and add interesting details to all the textiles: coasters, table runners, seat cushions, etc. I want every turn of a corner to be a surprise and a delight to the senses.

There are so many things I want to learn, so that I can make our first house a real home. This book would definitely be a great first step towards that dream.

I work within the church world, helping in any and all ages with anything from A-Z, wherever and whenever is needed. Throughout the years, I have done numerous "craft" type things, whether in Sunday School, Children's Worship, Vacation Bible School, Midweek Children's Time, Adult Craft Time, Nursery Time, or just intertaining children while parents talk. I have gleaned ideas from many different sourses, but, must confess, that a book like Lotta's would sure provide more up to date information, possibilities, and creative situations to work with should I be chosen to receive one. Thanks for letting me share.

I need this book because I love Lottas prints and she has made me interested in them. Printing is something i've been interested in for awhile but haven't tried yet so her book could teach me everything!!

Also, I need it because I'm a broke college graduate on her way to get her masters and be in even further debt who can't afford to buy this amazing book.

Cool Gift

My sister who is entirly too high strung has finally taken to crafting and this book would be a nice gift for her.

Posted by: danielle on June 4, 2008 at 11:37 AM

I need this book because I will be moving into a new dingy apartment, am 30,000 in debt from school, I need some new and fresh ideas to take my mind off the fact that I will have to work my ass off to pay that money down. I want my new home (first time without roomates YAY!) to be uniquely me, so I can feel good when I come home. I am a crafty girl! I need some inspiration. Plus Lotta's designs are so great! So simple, yet so ultimately striking!!!

PICK ME. :D

Posted by: Tamara on June 4, 2008 at 11:34 AM

Why I really need this book

I've gotten hooked on screen printing from the first issue of Craft and I'm finally ready to branch out with printing and stenciling. Who better to start with than Lotta. Also, five of my cousins are pregnant, I need to start working on baby gifts now.

Posted by: Sarah on June 4, 2008 at 11:29 AM

We're in the process of buying a new home and I'd love to use stencils in the nursery!

Posted by: Mia on June 4, 2008 at 11:25 AM

My apartment...

is begging for some sprucing up! I'd love to learn the craft. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Posted by: Kathryn on June 4, 2008 at 11:23 AM

Sweet!

I love Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing and I can't wait to see what she has come up with now. I bought a used table and I made some plain white placemats, printing on them by hand would be perfect.

Posted by: High; running wild on June 4, 2008 at 11:23 AM

Gotta Get Crafty

I love all things Lotta! I'm a graphic designer by day, and this book might just be the thing to help me get my hands dirty. :-)

I need this book because it looks absolutely beautiful and I could use some new inspiration!

Posted by: rustyk.myopenid.com on June 4, 2008 at 11:18 AM

Pick me, pick me! Please!

I would so love to win this book. I'm just starting to explore printing and absolutely love Lotta's style. Her sewing book inspired me to get out my machine and really learn to sew. rusty@marchnine.com

I would be in creative heaven

I am so grateful for the opportunity to win this book, thank you for your creative generosity!

If I win this book I would use it for many things, but foremost to print on the recycled/reused item art that I make (or remake, rather). I would love to know how to apply different media properly and with relatively consistent quality. I'm sure this will just be the beginning of what's possible!

Thank You!

Posted by: jul!e on June 4, 2008 at 10:51 AM

ack!

I need this! As soon as I saw a post about the release I started harassing my boyfriend about how gorgeous it looks.
I started teaching myself printing techniques at the beginning of this year, and I absolutely cannot get enough. Now that a little career is coming from it (via etsy and a few boutiques that carry my stuff), I am wanting to keep learning and expanding my inventory. Plus, hello, as I previously stated: the book looks gorgeous!

Posted by: mingaling on June 4, 2008 at 10:51 AM

I love Lotta's work...and I would LOVE this book. Just started printing and hoping to do a fun nursery mural using a water theme...would LOVE THIS BOOK!

surface design obsessed but total newbie!

I've got a billion ideas of surfaces I want to print, but no idea where to begin. This book looks like a great primer that can get me rolling!

Posted by: sheilalyn on June 4, 2008 at 10:35 AM

Lotta inspiration

Like so many, I absolutely love Lotta. I have just purchased (gulp!) a home that needs a lot of work to turn it into the pretty sanctuary I know is in there somewhere. And Lotta's book is so chock full of ideas and inspiration, it's just the ticket!

Posted by: Sarah W. on June 4, 2008 at 10:34 AM

Wow

This book looks amazing! I've been trying to screenprint via the nylon pantyhose method and such, and it's not going so well. I would love this book for ideas. Scandinavian designs are by far my favorite, and that just sent me over the edge for this book. Did I mention I'm a poor college student? :) I'm a crafter through and through, I would love to make my own prints to work with!

Posted by: Karen S. on June 4, 2008 at 10:32 AM

Pretty Please?

I'm a starving grad student who can't afford a used Gocco from ebay. Last Christmas, I made cards for my family and got the worst hand cramp of my life after drawing the same dumb reindeer 50 times!

Posted by: Marsha on June 4, 2008 at 10:32 AM

Clueless

I need this book because I am very eager to do some printmaking of my own...but have no clue how to go about it!

Posted by: May on June 4, 2008 at 10:28 AM

1. I am drawn to books with clever cover art, usually regardless of the book's content. Usually.
2. Though, I hadn't even heard of Lotta until she graced the window of my Google Reader.
3. Would love to partake in some print-making goodness!

Great book!

This book has had some great reviews and I would love to see it for myself!

I'm in a creative rut. Working as a web designer can burn me out sometimes. I believe I need to get my hands dirty and do something different to remind me I that I'm a creative person and that I chose a design related profession because it's fun.

Posted by: Bekah K on June 4, 2008 at 10:24 AM

and how!

This is so exciting!
I have been reading up on DIY printmaking lately because my husband and are are moving overseas for a 6 month stint and I will have to leave my sewing machine behind :( I thought printing would be a fun new thing to be obsessed with and i won't have to worry about electricity conversions... and potato prints transcend language right? ;) One way or another... this book is on my wish list and winning it would be fabulous!

Desperate Decorator

My home needs help and my children need a learning experience (can you tell we're a homeschooling family?). The book looks fantastically interesting. Thanks for the give-away!

Posted by: Leonardo Boiko on June 4, 2008 at 10:23 AM

I need this book because I have an one-year-old daughter! Baby clothes and sheets and furniture are soo boring, all pink and blue with the same-old motifs repeated all over. I want to make her stylish, individualist wear! For example: http://namakajiri.net/pics/pirate.jpeg

(I’m in South America so ignore this comment if the giveaway is US-only.)

Posted by: Mary on June 4, 2008 at 10:22 AM

I would like this book because I am sure it is as good as her sewing book.

Posted by: Kari on June 4, 2008 at 10:21 AM

For whatever reason, I can't seem to log in properly... I thought I had the right password, and it seems to work on the O'reilly page ok, but it doesn't work here, and it makes me want to tear my hair out!

How am i supposed to remember the right recover phrase, if the login page won't accept what I know to be a correct password???

Lotta rocks, and I totally want to win a copy of this book!

Love Lotta style!

The first book I bought after learning to sew last year was Lotta Jansdotter's "Simple Sewing". The simple style of her fabrics really appealed to me. Now I can make my own! Whoohoo!

Posted by: Natasha on June 4, 2008 at 10:14 AM

WHY?

Because this book rocks!

Posted by: mulkey on June 4, 2008 at 10:13 AM

Cause I'm cute?

And I've always wanted to learn how to make prints. I love patterns and have been jonesin for some new prints in my life.

Posted by: waverly87 on June 4, 2008 at 10:09 AM

I am a printmaker. I just graduated and no longer have access to a press. I really really really need to get some inspiration for how to print by hand.

Posted by: Stephanie on June 4, 2008 at 10:09 AM

Ooh printing

When I saw the earlier post about the print parties and the "kids welcome" part, I thought this would be a cool craft to do with my 2 & 4 yr olds. We could use washable paints and we could print on EVERYTHING. So I'm jumping on this chance to win a copy of the book.

I've never done printing before but I'll try everything crafty. In fact, I think maybe I'll go make a potato stamper right now...
