The MetaPostModernKnitting Sock Challenge is going on now through July 1st.
From the challenge page:

The goal: Design your choice of (or both):

1. A fashionable handknit sock for women (we have to limit this one to women... it's not that challenging to make a fashionable sock for men). We aren't going to define fashionable for you. Do some research in the fashion mags, or on style.com, or wherever else you get your fashion inspiration, but we don't want to limit your creativity by telling you what fashionable is.

2. An artsy or unconventional handknit sock for either men or women. We're about more than fashion here at MPMK. We want to promote designs that are avant-garde or unconventional in other ways. We won't define this one either, so that you can let your creativity run wild.

What we want:
A sketch of your design and a note about your inspiration.
