At CRAFT, we have been seeing neat projects posted online from patterns in Make Workshop founder Diana Rupp's Sew Everything Workshop since it came out. I got the book a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying reading it. The introductory chapters are more comprehensive than any other beginning sewing book that I have seen. The "Gearing Up" chapter provides background information instead of just a list of supplies so those new to sewing know why they are buying what. There's also a bullet list of features to look for in a sewing machine like all-metal parts and a drop-in bobbin. Diana also includes personal anecdotes about why she sews and her family sewing history. I really like the picture of her mother's homemade prom dress. I was planning on giving the book to my sister, since she just started sewing, but instead we are both going to have a copy and have a "Knockout Knickers" sew-along. This is by far the best introduction to sewing book on the market. I purchased this along with two others a few months ago and the others haven't even had a look in yet. Diana writes as though she is in the room with you, helping you at every step of the way. A great book with really stylish and cool patterns and 'make it' projects. I have promised myself the next time I'm in NY I'll book onto one of Dianas workshops. 11 out of 10.

great book

as a beginning seamster i have to say this book is one of the best i have come across for beginers. i have tried to teach myself how to sew from other books but they were either too boring or the instructions weren't clear. this book ie neither; a real keeper.
