Polly van der Glas Jewelry

Fiona Killackey at Cool Hunting writes:
Plenty are on the "let's recycle and reuse" bandwagon these days but few have looked at really reusing what we have quite like Melbourne-based jewelry designer Polly van der Glas. Sourcing her materials from friends and family who have been kind enough to offer (actual) parts of themselves, van der Glas created a stunningly innovative debut collection which features human hair and teeth. Already turning heads (and no doubt some very weak stomachs) van der Glas pieces are set for cult status.

Hair braiding was really in vogue many years ago in the states (around about the Civil War) as a way to remember loved ones past and present. Necklaces, key fobs, and bracelets... Like knitting now a days hair braiding was the height of the Victorian era crafter. You can still find the occasional book on hair braiding etc...
Here's an old sample: http://www.historybroker.com/items/hair.htm

Sometimes even starched into beads for necklaces and crucifixes:

Can we say Victorian Mourning Jewelry? Personally, this is just about as creepy as wearing that stuff or a stuffed head around my neck!
