this is also known as "beer batter bread" and has been quite the staple in our home for several years.

the beauty of the recipe is that it you get the wonderfully sweet yeasty flavor without the work of a traditional yeasted bread (no kneading, no rising). you can also really play with the flavor by experimenting with different beers. a dark amber will give you good color and a deeper caramel-y flavor. a very light ale will give you a bright sweet flavor. and of course you should experiment with things to mix in... cheddar and green onions, smoked gouda, rosemary and chopped black olives... etc.
