Ravelry: Knit and Crochet Community

Ravelrylogo
Have you heard about Ravelry yet? It's in beta now and is a new social networking site for the knit and crochet community. According to TechCrunch, 17,000 people have requested invites but only 1/3 so far have gotten in. This morning, after reading Crafty Daisies write up and Amy O'Neill Houck's explanation about it, I added my name to the waiting list.

Amy writes:

The article talks about the popularity of the still-in-beta program and compares it to a social networking site, but I think it doesn't "get" the really cool fiber-y aspects of it. I mean, we can virtually socialize in a million places, but we can't see what's in Violet's stash or instantly what's being crocheted with Socks that Rock. Interestingly, these are some of the more "geeky" aspects of the site. I'm guessing that TechCrunch didn't write about them because they can't yet get in there and see them. There are rumblings that beta will be over soon.

Check out Ravelry for yourself and the 27 screenshots of features. It looks like a great way to knowledge share on projects. Link.

  • Ravelry, not Raverly.
It isn't a site for ravers, although that isn't to say all knitters aren't ravers. :)

  • I just question why anyone would want to KNOW what's in my stash. :)

Ravelry = Teh Cool, though. Very helpful from an organizational sense, and the groups are sucking out my braintime. Definitely worth putting your name in for. :)
