CRAFT Pattern Podcast: Shimmy, Shake, & Bake Apron by Denyse Schmidt

This week's CRAFT Pattern Podcast is the Shimmy, Shake, & Bake Apron by Denyse Schmidt. This pattern is featured in her Quilt-It Kit and the Denyse Schmidt Quilts book , both published by Chronicle Books. The pom-pom trim at the bottom is a nice touch to this quilted apron that's quick and easy to make.

Martha Stewart Kids

Martha Stewart Kids is now on newsstands, with some cute ideas for summer parties (my birthday was always lost during the Christmas holidays, so I pined for a fun summer party): "From themed birthday parties, to scrumptious cookie cakes and irresistible goody bags, the Summer 2007 special issue of Good Things for Kids is chock full of inspiring ideas and activities that you can do together with your kids." I'm particularly fond of the baby shower goody bags made from padded mailers and the cookie layer cake (yum!), but there are some super cute gingerbread people ice cream sandwiches, too.

BlogHer in Chicago

Hi Crafters! For the next few days starting today, I'll be in Chicago for the BlogHer Conference which runs from July 27-29. I'm very excited to be speaking on The Art of Crafts panel on Saturday, July 28 at 1:30-2:45pm with my fellow crafters, Kathy Cano Murillo of Crafty Chica, Kristin Roach of Craft Leftovers, and Amy Sedaris of I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence (but does she really need any intro?). All this will be moderated by the fabulous Leah Peterson and just know that in addition to crafty goodness, I'm sure we'll have lots of laughs!
Here's a bit about the session:
The CraftBlogging community is diverse and large, covering everything from scrapbooking to knitting to other handi-crafts. They use their online communities to collaborate, to provide critiques, to engage in commerce, and simply to learn. How do you find your piece of the CraftBlogosphere? And yes, we'll also talk crafts...our favorite solo and group projects. Leah Petersen moderates the conversation with Kathy Cano Murillo (aka Crafty Chica), Kristin Roach, Natalie Zee Drieu and Amy Sedaris.
Find out more about the BlogHer conference held at The Navy Pier in Chicago, IL and how you can register from the conference web site. - Link.

Stitch N' Pitch SF Giants Wrap Up

It was a foggy, cold night at AT&T Park in San Francisco as the 2nd annual SF Giants Stitch N' Pitch welcomed over 1400 stitchers to the stadium. Barry Bonds didn't hit a home run, but the mood at the stadium was filled with lots smiles and laughs as people came from all around the Bay Area to take part in this special event. There were knitting and crochet demonstrations, needlepointing galore, and for us at the CRAFT magazine table we showed off some of the recent entries from our Stitch N' Pitch Contest. During the game, you could see the bundled up crafters working on all kinds of projects from knitting to needlepoint. Pictured above is a scene at the stadium, Arwen and Katie at our CRAFT magazine table, the rowdy "Nordie Knitters" who knit at Nordstrom's cafe every Friday afternoon, some some knitting concentration during the game, and finally, needlepoint in action. The garlic fries ruled as well as the flavored cotton candy (lemon's the best). To see all the photos, check out my Flickr set. Link.
